I Am Oriented and Trained

My first week in and I am very excited. We started training and orientation on Sunday the 20th and completed it all Thursday night. What an amazing week! There were so many "best parts" I am feeling so full. There was a man who came and taught us the history of this area and that was very interesting. It truly helped me understand how things have changed here throughout the years and how some of this came to be. We had a commissioning service on Thursday night at a church that had been built by Father Beiting and some of the volunteers. We all sang a song together to start the service and I would like to share the lyrics with you.

Will you come and follow me, If I but call your name
Will you go where you don't know, And never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown, Will you let my name be known
Will you let my life be grown, In you and you in me?

Will you leave yourself behind, If I but call your name
Will you care for cruel and kind, and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare, Should your life attract or scare,
Will you let me answer prayer, In you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see, If I but call your name
Will you set the prisoners free, and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean, and do such as this unseen?
And admit to what I mean, In you and you in me?

What an awesome song and it was a really powerful moment. Each new volunteer went to the front of the church and signed a commitment paper and then our supervisor signed it also. When this was all done, we all lit a candle and held them high as the send off to this new journey. It was great and of course I had a hard time keeping it all together in the service.

I am so happy to be here and I know that I am where I am supposed to be. I have never been in a place before where I feel so many people gathered together in the name of Christ to do His work. It is hard to explain, but I have had some amazing conversations with quite a few people and am very moved by the faith I have seen in action in so many people. CAP really keeps the focus on Christ and how we should live our lives. We share dinner four nights a week and then have devotion after. It is a great community building experience and helps me grow in my faith also.

I will begin work on Monday. My supervisor will be picking me up here at the house and then I will drive the truck to see if I pass the driving test. Marilyn failed the first time so I am a little nervous but what the heck, we'll give it a shot.

All is good and I hope everything is well with all of you. Until we meet again, God Bless.
